Chõng is a narrow bed, often made in bamboo. It is a multipurposed furniture in ancient rural vietnamese houses, especially in the Northern Delta, for resting, dining, or receiving guest. A “chong”‘s dimension is usually 0.8-1.2m by 1.4-1.8m. A bamboo “chong” is made of different pieces of bamboo: 4 legs of about 0.6m, with dowel connection for the main frame.
Not only being used in the main house (usually in the verandah, or “hien”), “chong” is also used in the kitchen or garden. People would also take it to the market. Students would take it to the school for times of examen as well.
